Books to help learn photoshop?
admin | Jun 26, 2010 | Comments 2
I am making a crude attempt to self teach photoshop. I would like to get a book that breaks the process down into easier to manage skills. The help section for most software is a bit confusing for me. I am more of a step by step type person rather than a troubleshooter.
Currently I am in an older version of photoshop (v 7 or 7.0 no clue what the difference is) I do not have the original literature it may have come with. If I learn the software I will buy the new version.
I have seen a lot of links to books on amazon all of which had stellar reviews. My problem is more in understanding what I need without knowing what is available.
Some reviews mention that early skills are covered in may books but that advanced techniques and specialized categories in the software are glazed over in books or not covered at all. In addition to this it seems different books cover different portions of photo shop and that I may need several books to learn all the ins and outs.
I’m lost since I am a beginner and have no idea what to arm myself with. Trial and error works for me but it does limit the higher end skills that come from actually knowing what you are doing. : )
I could use some suggestions on what categories in photoshop are available in separate books. I could also use suggestions on what is a good starter book and then what advanced books I would want to conquer after that.
My goal is to understand all the functions of the software and only be limited by the time I have to practice.
Thank you
I know you said books but I would recommend video tutorials. I have used tutorials from lynda.com and found it very good for beginners also try tutorials from photoshoptopsecret.com its probably more for advanced users but its not hard to follow. I think by using these two tutorials you can become pro in few months. But you will definitely have to get newer version of photoshop cause you will miss on a lot good features that came with new versions. I would recommend the latest one photoshop cs 4. The thing is that the software and all these tutorials cost a lot so if you just home user who wants to try it out think of it do you really need it. Anyway if you don’t feel like paying you could find all these tutorials and software on torrent sites for free (which is illegal)
. Goodluck.
